Dear College of Medicine community,

Please join me in congratulating William O. Collins, M.D., FACS, FAAP, who will serve as the next chair of the UF Higher of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology.

Dr. Collins joined the UF College of Medicine kinesthesia in 2006 every bit division primary of pediatric otolaryngology, providing training to residents and fellows, medical students and staff. He has served as the residency plan director for ix years and has led the segmentation's operating room management as surgical managing director for the past five years, in addition to caring for patients in a busy clinical practice.

Dr. Collins is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Order and a recipient of the College of Medicine Exemplary Teacher Honor. He was recognized by the department of pediatrics for contributing to an "Outstanding Achievement for Medical Student Education."

He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami, where he also completed a residency in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery and a fellowship in rhinology and advanced endoscopic sinus surgery. He and so completed an boosted fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining the faculty of the UF Higher of Medicine, Dr. Collins was an assistant professor at the Children'southward National Medical Eye/George Washington University schoolhouse of Medicine.

The department of otolaryngology ranks 32nd nationally in the electric current U.S. News & World Report subspecialty rankings for Ear, Olfactory organ and Throat. In his new role as chair, Dr. Collins will work closely with the faculty, trainees and staff to develop a strategic plan to let the section to go on on a trajectory of excellence.

Our objectives for the residency program are to provide our residents with a potent background in basic and clinical sciences related to otolaryngology, to assist our residents in the evolution of clinical and surgical expertise, and to give them the opportunity to learn and practice research techniques.
